A visit from one of Europe’s finest ensembles. A concert devoted entirely to Vivaldi and which will include soprano Gabriella Costa with seven virtuoso musicians on strings and harpsichord, conducted by Giorgio Tabacco. The concert is being presented in cooperation with the Institut Culturel Italien de Montreal. After the music, refreshments will be served and spectators will be able to meet the musicians.

Picnic, dancing, and the music of Africa

It starts with recorded African music at 6:30 pm; then, while you enjoy your picnic meals, the five musicians and three dancers with Taafé Fanga will present their show, which has electrified audiences and critics from coast to coast.

Carmina Burana and Rhapsody in Blue

Under the direction of Michel Brousseau, 100 choristers and three soloists, along with two pianists and a handful of percussionists, will perform one of the world’s most beloved musical works. Composed in 1936 by Carol Orff and based on a collection of Medieval poems, Carmina Burana has been a favourite in the classical repertory and much admired by experts and neophytes alike since its creation. Also on the program: Maria Knapik, soprano; Antoine Bélanger, tenor; Marc Boucher, baritone; Danielle Maisonneuve, pianist and Lorraine Gariépy, pianist.

This concert, which will be picked up by Radio-Canada’s Espace Musique channel, features five of the hottest names in Canadian jazz: singer Karen Young, violinist Helmut Lipsky, accordion player Vladimir Sidoroy, bassist Jean-François Martel and pianist Mat Herskowitz. In an interesting twist, they will improvise to works of classical music.

This year’s edition starts at 8:00 p.m. with a conference on astronomy. As the sun sets, enjoy a multimedia concert with guest pianist Maxim Bernard, guitarist Rémi Boucher and vocalist Alain Lecompte. On the program for the piano: Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata, Chopin’s Nocturnes and Debussy’s Clair de lune. Works for guitar will include Variations sur Au clair de la lune by Carcassi. And for the vocal portion, Alain Lecompte will perform some of his own compositions based on the words of Victor Hugo. After the show, the audience is taken on a guided tour of the stars in the night sky.

The official musicians of Queen Sofia of Spain, with guest soloist and Quebecer Alexandre Da Costa on violin, will perform the Four Seasons by Vivaldi. This is the first Canadian tour for the prestigious Spanish orchestra. For the occasion it will comprise 17 musicians under the direction of Juan Luis Gallego.
